Nikobishunde is a small kennel owned by Nev and Miriam Kirkham, breeding for temperament and type, on the outskirts of South-West Sydney, Australia. All our dogs are considered part of the family. At Nikobishunde there are no kennels, just temporary penned area for puppies to play safely without being knocked over by over enthusiastic "bigger puppies". Dog breeds are "grouped" into various breed types and here in Australia, the GSD is in the Working Dog group. We do show our dogs in "Specialty" and "All Breeds" conformation shows but also see the dogs happiest when their working and having to utilise their intelligence. Being a very intelligent breed, they can get bored and this is where many owners run into issues. To keep our dogs active and interest up, they all attend show training, obedience training, sheep herding training, trips the the beach and pool and so on. After all, they are a working dog and not one for your lap (though they sometimes think other wise). They are especially not for leaving in the back yard. Our journey into the world of German Shepherds began in 2022 with Ch TATABEN Maya Graceful Illusion AZ ZAP BSC, our first German Shepherd. Maya’s intelligence, loyalty, and stunning presence earned her the title of Australian Champion, inspiring us to build Mayumbra Shepherds. She embodies everything we love about this incredible breed, setting the foundation for our program and our commitment to excellence. In 2024, we reached an exciting milestone with the arrival of our first litter. This carefully planned pairing resulted in two exceptional boys—a striking black male and a handsome sable male. These pups reflect our vision: physically impressive, confident, and full of potential. We can’t wait to see them grow and thrive in the show and sporting rings. At Mayumbra Shepherds, our philosophy centers on producing dogs who are not only structurally sound but also balanced and adaptable. We believe in preserving the German Shepherd’s true versatility, excelling in conformation, sport, and as devoted companions. By prioritizing health, temperament, and early socialization, we ensure each puppy gets the best possible start to thrive in any environment.
