Thanks to Lynn Blacher of Powerpaws Kennels, I got my first Stafford that made me fall in love with this breed, my heart dog Spikey - NZ Ch Aus Ch Neuter Ch Powerpaws Two Sox, who gained his wings in 2018. I was blessed with his daughter & my foundation bitch in 2016, Synda - Ch Neuter Ch Powerpaws Laura Norda who got me in the show ring showing myself and consequently then my Prefix Loharo started. I am a small breeder that only breeds when wanting to keep a dog myself. My aim is to breed Staffords that are Structurally Sound, True to Type & Temperament. All my dogs for breeding are DNA tested, Eye Tested & L2 & HC tested before breeding, as is the Stud Dog I use. All puppies are raised in the lounge room around my family, 4 & 2 legged. My Staffords are part of my family sleeping on the couch and on the bed. The puppies that I sell are Vet Checked, Vaccinated, Microchipped, Eye Tested, crate training started and come with a comprehensive puppy pack & support and guidance for the life of the puppy. All my dogs deserve a loving home with responsible owners. We were lucky to start with our boy 'Jack', who we were able to achieve the title of Supreme Champion prior to his 3rd birthday. Then came along our beautiful girl 'Diamond', who we also titled at an early age. From our first litter from Jack and Diamond we were blessed to have our beautiful black and white pied girl 'Queenie" born. Queenie is our first home bred "BEST IN SHOW" winner All dogs at Handpikd are a very important part of our lives, with a lot of time and love being dedicated to them on a daily basis. We DO NOT breed for colour and DO NOT breed for the colour blue. All of our dogs are DNA certified as clear of L2-Hga and HC with additional clinical eye tests for PHPV, MRD, HC and Distichiasis (extra eyelashes). Along the way developing a fascination and tremendous love for the Stafford (I think spending so much time next to gorgeous staffies in the group specials classes may have contributed)Then after seeing my first blue I was so mesmerised by her colour and the way she seemed to shimmer, I had to have one and after some searching, research and patience now I we are lucky enough to have been owned by a gorgeous blue/brindle Shelby and her amazing daughters & now granddaughters. And yes they do own us, they have the run of the place and with that cheeky Staffy smile they get whatever they want. I couldn't be happier to promote Staffs and carry on my grans great hard work in breeding quality dogs to a standard. To strengthen our beautiful breed and keep Gilgai kennels reputation strong something Gilgai has always strived for. I have always been amazed by the tenacity and overwhelming presence of the Stafford and will never cease to be amazed by how much they are willing to love and give always. All our Dogs are "free range" and have the run of 5 acres. All our pups are bought up with our kids and adult dogs in a loving nurturing environment All Our dogs are HC and L2HGA clear by parentage and are bred firstly for beautiful temperment and conformation.

I have been personally involved with the Staffordshire Bull Terrier breed since I was 16 years old and have been successfully showing and breeding them for the last 12 years. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier has a very special place in my heart because to me they represent the perfect ‘all rounder’ type of dog. They are lovable, brave yet also sensitive, great with kids, easy to handle and live with (if socialised and trained correctly). This breed has brought me so much joy over the years and I can’t imagine my life without one. My dogs are DNA health tested to ensure they are not affected by HC, L2HGA and DM so I can feel comfortable that I am breeding dogs that are the best and healthiest example of the breed. I feed a raw food diet to help support a strong and healthy immune system so they can continue to be active and cherished members of the family. Lastly, a word about temperament. This is a breed that is naturally tenacious and so it is very important that all puppies are socialised from a young age so that they can grow to understand the world around them and not feel fearful or defensive around strange people or other animals. A well rounded stafford should be a dog that is able to accompany their owner anywhere with ease and after all that is the lifestyle that they also enjoy the most!
