Breeding is not an art — it’s a science. At ITABASS, we have proudly bred American Akitas of strength, dignity, and loyalty since 2013. Our foundation began with our first import, Kitsune Playin’ With Fire “Buster”, brought from the UK in 2014. A solid, powerful male with exceptional movement, substance, and temperament, Buster achieved his Australian Championship title with ease — setting the benchmark for our breeding program. Our focus has always been to produce stable, healthy, and type-correct American Akitas that embody the breed standard and excel both as loyal companions and natural guardians. Each of our dogs undergoes comprehensive health screening prior to breeding, including hip and elbow scoring, eye certification, and DNA profiling, ensuring every generation is as sound in body as it is in mind. As dedicated breeders, the wellbeing of our dogs and the long-term preservation of the breed are always our top priorities. For this reason, we have made the considered decision to gradually retire from breeding American Akitas in the coming years — a choice made out of deep respect for their future health and sustainability.

Our program combines prestigious international pedigrees with careful selection for health, structure, and temperament, ensuring every Akita we produce reflects the noble spirit of its heritage. In October 2015, we welcomed Mishi No Bushido Acca Go Hagakure Kensha, imported from Chile, with lineage tracing to France, Argentina, and Japan — including multiple Akiho winners. Our male, Tsubasa “Raichu”, hails from one of the finest pedigrees in Japan; his sire, Gattsou Go Kodamasou, holds the esteemed Meiyosho title from the 139th Honbuten. Most recently, we proudly welcomed Shintaro, imported from Hungary, bringing valuable new bloodlines and exceptional breed type into our program. All our Akitas are comprehensively health screened prior to breeding, including hip and elbow scoring, eye certification, and DNA profiling, to ensure each generation is sound in both body and mind. In 2022, we proudly welcomed our first imported pair of Shiba Inu, chosen for their exceptional type, temperament, and health. Each of our Shibas undergoes comprehensive health screening, including hip and elbow scoring and full DNA testing, ensuring every dog meets the highest standards of soundness and breed integrity. As dedicated breeders, the welfare of our dogs and the preservation of their future are our highest priorities. For this reason, we have made the considered decision to gradually retire from breeding Shiba Inu in the coming years — a choice made out of deep respect for their health, heritage, and sustainability.
