I have been involved in exhibiting & breeding purebred dogs since 1972. English Cocker Spaniels were my first breed, and I had moderate success with them, but I was seeking something larger and was drawn to the sighthound breeds.
(I must have gone off on a tangent as I got caught up in American Cocker Spaniels and had several very successful Best In Show winners)
My first Saluki, BIS CH Taamirah Khosusi, was the first dog to sleep on my bed, she also taught me a lot about sighthound ways. In 1990, my interest in sighthounds was rekindled and I added a Whippet and an Afghan to the mix. My Whippet, ‘Sophie’ -Ch Ryeford Resa Brown Eye was a multi Best In Group winner, and the dam of 2 Multi Best In Show winners from her only litter. A partner in the Padtheway prefix, which has successfully bred 55 Champions, both feathered and smooth, with a few more pointed. Numerous Best In Group winners & 15 individual Best In Show/Runner-up Best In Show winners at Royal, All Breeds, Hound Club & Saluki specialty shows. Including 5 Supreme Champions, 6 further Grand Champions, 2 International Champions, 4 Canadian Champions, 2 American Champions, 2 Irish Champions, 3 Field Champions, 2 Lure Coursers of Merit and 1 Dual Champion.
As a natural progression I commenced judging in 1992 and am now ANKC licensed to judge all Toys, Terriers, Gundogs, Hounds and Non-Sporting Groups. I have officiated at shows across Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Canada, Sweden, Germany & Finland to date. I have had the great honour and pleasure of judging Salukis at Huron Valley, San Angeles, Summer Splash and Saluki Club Of Canada specialties in North America. The Manitoba Hound Club in Canada, Donaueschingen Sighthound Show in Germany (where I drew a record entry of 178 Salukis), the Swedish Saluki Club and Skokloster Sighthound Show in Sweden, Finnish Saluki Club, The Hound Club of The ACT and the inaugural Championship Show of the Queensland Sighthound Association.
When judging, I try to keep in mind the original purpose and function of the breed and reward exhibits that combine soundness in limb and mind and conform to the standard as closely as possible. Having travelled extensively, I have been fortunate to see large entries of dogs up close and personal. Giving me a global picture of the state of many of the breeds that I have come to know and love. I have also forged lasting friendships with many who enjoy a shared interest in dogs.
