What is Canine Parvovirus?
Canine parvovirus (parvo) is a highly contagious viral disease that affects dogs, primarily attacking the gastrointestinal system and, in severe cases, the heart in young puppies.
Symptoms of Canine Parvovirus
Symptoms include vomiting, severe diarrhoea (often bloody), lethargy, fever, and dehydration. Without immediate veterinary treatment, parvo can be fatal.
Prevention and Treatment
Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent parvo. Infected dogs require intensive veterinary care, including IV fluids, antibiotics for secondary infections, and isolation to prevent spread.
