What is Patellar Luxation?
Patellar luxation is a condition where the kneecap (patella) moves out of its normal position. This can cause lameness, discomfort, and, in severe cases, arthritis. It can be present from birth or develop later due to injury or structural issues.
How is Patellar Luxation Diagnosed?
A veterinarian diagnoses patellar luxation by examining the knee joint and assessing movement. It is graded from I (mild) to IV (severe), which determines treatment options. X-rays may be used to check for bone abnormalities.
Treatment Options for Patellar Luxation
Mild cases can be managed with physiotherapy and weight control. Severe cases may require surgery to realign the kneecap and stabilise the joint.
