We commenced showing and breeding with golden retrievers in 1978 but have owned and shown flatcoats since 1987 after seeing our first flatcoat at a United Retriever Club show in England in 1986 where we fell in love with the breed. Our aim is to produce dual purpose dogs who have the outgoing temperament that flat coated retrievers are known for. We commenced breeding flatcoated retrievers in 2006 and have produced champions in Australia and New Zealand. Caralbyn Kennels (Tasmania) was established after many years of involvement across dog sports and showing. Our first Flatcoat - MBIS BISS Supreme Ch. Kellick Criminal Intent - was kindly selected for us by our great friends and mentors at Kellick FCR in Victoria. Boasting 24 BEST IN SHOW wins, including breed specialty, all breeds, Gundog specialty and CACIB BIS wins, he is a remarkably unique dog with all the hallmarks and qualities desired in a "Flattie". He has been awarded by specialist Gundog and All Breed judges from across the globe and is available at stud to approved bitches through Caralbyn. We have since imported beautiful dogs from New Zealand to add quality to the gene pool here in Australia. All of our dogs are valued family members, enjoying life surrounded by children, animals, open paddocks, serene bushland, and crystal clear beaches. They live a life of luxury, and their temperaments and condition tell a tale of balance and beauty. We only breed with the outlook to improve the health, soundness and longevity of the Flat Coated Retriever in Australia, we are not a puppy farm who breeds for profit.
