Salukis are truly the paradox of the dog world: their sweet, sensitive, charmingly beautiful selves can frustrate you with their stubbornness, ability to completely forget their training, and utter disdain for your time when you’re in a rush. Their split-second change between comatose and racetracking around the yard is second to none. Because I am so passionate about salukis, I spend as much time as I can learning about history, pedigrees, genetics, and health. I have a large number of mentors around the world who I am ever thankful to for their openness and vast knowledge they share with me. As a reflection of how I have been welcomed, I am always eager to speak with anyone who wants to learn because I firmly adhere to the idea of “promote what you love”. The saluki is quite a healthy breed, but I believe in testing for the things we can, keeping clear records (heart, thyroid, monitoring blood levels, allergies), and being transparent and open. If something occurs that we do not expect, it is the responsibility of the owner/breeder to make the problem public and work to find a solution to benefit the breed. I have been blessed with the support, trust, and friendship of breeders who breed functional, moderate salukis with beautiful temperaments, huge personalities, are fun to live with, and from health-tested stock. We believe in multi-purpose salukis: family members who are competitive at showing, lure coursing, and are great to do life with.

Our breeding philosophy at Willowmist is simple. It is to produce happy salukis that meet the Australian standard physically and mentally. We strive to produce good pets, show dogs and lure coursers. Salukis are an ancient breed and we aim to preserve all aspects of the breed while producing sound, strong, healthy dogs that will enjoy the modern lifestyle. We test for Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis NCL (Saluki Type) a rare neurological disorder occasionally found in the breed. We were the breeders of Grand Ch Willowmist The Hijacker (owned by Ian Rasmussen & Robyn Slade) one of Australia’s top winning salukis of the past. His name appears in the pedigree of winning salukis across Australia, Europe, America and Asia. Post COVID 19 we are revitalising our breeding program with many thanks to our saluki friends across Australia, especially Chantal Parratt (Grantulla Salukis) & Stephen & Janelle Uebel. We have an exciting litter born on June 10, 2024. The father is Quanmarra Chirich LCX and the dam is Grantulla Inan. The puppies combine lure coursing and show bloodlines blending Australian, European and American lines. We are keen to debut these puppies in the show ring and later on the coursing field. Their pedigree can be viewed here: https://saluki.breedarchive.com/animal/testmating?dam_uuid=7724e6b1-ef1b-406a-9eb1-278dee373a4f&sire_uuid=8bd92807-ef3f-466b-8de3-f9137ef81f62
