The Fishington prefix was established in 2021, although we are new we have the utmost passion for cockers spaniels. Animals have always been an integral part of our family and we are thrilled to be undertaking the task of being an ANKC exhibitor and breeder. My love for cocker spaniels started as a young child with relatives owning the breed. We are incredibly lucky to be located within the farming region of the darling downs, where our dogs have room to run and play. Under the guidance of others we have been and will continue working hard to improve our bloodlines. All of our own dogs are hip & elbow scored and DNA tested for PRA, FN & AON. We have recently commenced exhibiting our home bred dogs in the show ring and will enjoy continuing to do so when time permits with our young family. Liyambai Cocker Spaniels is a small, family breeder of gorgeous solid colour cocker spaniels (mostly gold). We are located in Townsville, in beautiful north Queensland. Established in the early 1980s by my dad, Nigel, we have been breeding cocker spaniels for over 40 years. My aunt still breeds cocker spaniels and working cockers in Wales, UK. Our first litters in Queensland were out of my darling Hunny (Arrunga Inyanga Hunny), who produced several Champions in the show ring. My first precious golden girl was Scooter (Arrunga Candy Lass). I purchased her from the lovely Noel Boddy, who mentored me to breed and show her. All the Liyambai breeding dogs have been DNA tested through Orivet and puppies will not be affected by PRA, FN, AHRN or AON (tested only in the USA). We currently have one breeding female and one handsome boy who is available at stud. All our cocker spaniels live in our homes and sleep in our beds and on our couches. They are part of our family! Hunny and Douglas (available for stud), live with us in Townsville, and our lovely boy Archie, is now retired and living his best life at Bribie Island near Brisbane. Our adored orange roan Cocker spaniel girl is pregnant! We are expecting golds, roans, chocolate and blacks. We are a loving family with a handful of young children and are very small ethical breeders of quality purebred cockers. All their food is home cooked, etc human grade meat, fresh goats milk from our own goats and top quality Advance dry food...they have never tasted cheap tin food. We closely work with our local vet and strive for temperament and confirmation, with the health and happiness of our dogs as paramount. These darling babies have had the very best start to life and we will be looking for homes that will give them no less. They were born in our home, are trained to use puppy pads, wormed and flea treated to a schedule. They have now progressed to leaning to go outside to toilet and are very well socialized, having been used to noise, children and lots of cuddles. I got my first Cocker Spaniel "Pixel" in 2012. Ever since then, I have been absolutely hooked on the breed. Especially Blacks. I was very lucky to have found a good breeder right at the start & am a very strong advocate for the absolute importance of ethical breeders. I am also very passionate about health testing. "Pixel" unfortunately was affected with AON (Adult Onset Neuropathy). I set her free just before she was 10. She was my heart dog & the story behind my prefix. Unfortunately the test for AON came out when Pixel was just over 2 years old. Pixel's destiny could have never been stopped as the testing didn't exist until now. Whilst many will claim their dogs do not produce AON, so many will not test for it. It's a $70USD test. It's inexpensive and so important for the future of the breed. Whilst I do show occasionally (I'm not built for running!) my primary passion in the dog world is in sports. I am an ANKC Licenced Judge for Lure Coursing, SprintDog™️ & Weight Pull. My now 13 year old boy Cedar was the first dog in Australia to gain an ANKC Lure Coursing title. Cedar & Pixel went on to be Australia's first for all subsequent titles available in Lure Coursing. Now Cedar competes in SprintDog™️ so he still gets to chase his trash bunnies. Squid also does SprintDog™️ & has her first Lure Coursing title, but like me, she is not the determined athlete of the family! I also own a Sloughi named Oryx.
