Established since 1972, Amhurst lines incorporate the world famous Wendover breeding, making our dogs over 90 years line bred. The last 21 years has seen the infusion of Swedish breeding from their leading kennel, Copper's Kennel, which has produced a number of English show champions and the breed record holder. Breeding occasionally, we strive to always improve the breed, and follow the standard Australia should adhere to, the English standard. Our puppies are brought up in a home environment, and all of our adult dogs run free together as a happy and harmonious group. Temperament is paramount in our wonderful breed. Puppies are sometimes available to discerning buyers. Having been an international judge for over 35 years, I am lucky enough to see Irish Setters in all parts of the world, which has enabled me to incorporate imported dogs into our gene pool. We are in it for the love of the old breed and its continuance. “Vintage” Irish setters are heart-warmers. They’re the old fashioned ones. We love their medium size, their gleaming red coat and the way they are so happy and affectionate. Everything about them is smart and moderate, practical and balanced. They look sporty even when they’ve sitting on the couch! They’re healthy, funny best friends who love to hear you laugh …and they invent so many ways to make it happen :-) We guarantee our pups will suffer no inherited diseases, defects or disorders for the duration of their lives. This includes bloat, epilepsy and megaesophagus. We are founding members of the Irish Setter Club of Western Australia where we work as a team. At the heart of the breed for 50 years and 16 generations, with many dogs gaining merits in conformation and field, our pups are bred and loved at home. They’re kindred spirits, trustworthy and loving with children. When we say our dogs are field-bred, we are saying that we live amongst fields in York and use these privileges well. We maintain the traits of our dogs by testing them thoroughly through the generations: their affectionate love, their willingness to please, their amazing instincts, their intelligence, their soundness and their handsome good looks.
