I discovered the Portuguese Podengos back in Finland in 1997, when I first saw them at an all breeds show. I was lucky enough to own two from the kennel Tahtitaivaan, before moving overseas. Finally, in 2010 I imported the very first Portuguese Podengo Pequeno into Australia, and established the breed here. INT Ch FIN Ch EST Ch Tahtitaivaan Emmi arrived in whelp, and three of the six puppies helped establish other breeding programs in Queensland and New South Wales. In 2015 I imported my second Podengo from Finland, Tahtitaivaan Choco, also in whelp, to the top winning European dog, Portuguese Grand Champion Zorro Da Praia Do Ribatejo. This litter was used as a foundation to help establish a collaborative breeding program with the Westengo Portuguese Podengo kennel in Perth, WA. Already, we have had some fantastic puppies with the help of frozen semen imported from Finland. This breed truly melts your heart, you can't possibly have a bad day when you own a podengo, they simply won't let you! They are energetic, yet cuddly, small, but have the stamina of a hound. A truly versatile small dog, they are suitable for Rally-O, tracking, lure coursing, the show ring, or as the best family pet. We are looking forward to seeing what the future holds for this breed in Australia

I fell in love with this breed 15 years ago when I was introduced by the lady who is responsible for bringing the first Portuguese Podengo to Australia. I have been breeding Podengo Small Smooth Haired for over 10 years. This versatile breed excels at pretty much anything they try. They are smart, sweet little dogs with a great sense of humour. They never really take anything too seriously & lighten even the darkest of days with their joyful antics. Alarves Podengos have been successful in the show ring all over Australia: Winning Best Of Breed at Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne Royal Shows for seven years in a row. Winning Best Of Breed at Sydney Royal with the largest entry of 17 Podengos and awarded Junior in the Hound Group at the 2017 Royal Queensland Show. Alarves Podengos are proud to have bred the only Podengo in Australia to have been awarded Best In Group (Group 1st) of the Hound Group and Runner Up to Best In Show (BIS 2nd). Alarves Podengos also compete successfully in other dogs sports such as Obedience, Agility, Scentwork, Lure Coursing & SprintDog (100m sprint), both here in Australia and in New Zealand. Alarves are proud to have bred the only Podengos in Australia to gain their lure coursing titles of Coursing Ability to Coursing Ability Masters. The ideal companion to sleep at your feet or share your days with.

Over 20 years of breeding, showing and grooming experience with cairn terriers. The prefix was Banmhor. I was on the hunt for a small breed without the coat care of a cairn terrrier. I contacted Annika from Sleykh kennels in 2016, she had a little bitch available. I took the chance and this little girl arrived sitting in the back of the crate at the airport very overwhelmed. Little Vida is my precious old girl now. Her sister arrived with us a year later in 2017. We bred the first litter in WA in 2018 under the Sleykh prefix. The mission is to promote and show others how incredible a Podengo is, the perfect little companion. One POD will lead to two! In April 2024 our first litter will be born under our own Prefix Westengo. Thanks to Annika Oksa, Sleykh kennels for all help and support over the past 8 years.
